The International Day of Light, proclaimed by UNESCO and celebrated every year on 16 May, commemorates the first laser ever built by T. H. Maiman in 1960. This global initiative highlights the key role of light and light-based technologies in science, culture, education, and sustainable development.

On this occasion, SIF and SIOF launch the 5th edition of the SIF–SIOF Call, supporting the organization of workshops, seminars, and study days designed and led by young researchers and students.

The call is strongly addressed to Master’s and PhD students, with a clear focus on scientific and professional training. Supported activities are purely educational and are not intended as outreach events for the general public.

Possible activities include:
• Training seminars
• Round tables
• Laboratory visits
• Networking and social moments
All activities must be entirely organized and managed by the student teams.
