International Day of Light 2024

The International Day of Light, established by UNESCO in 2015 on May 16 to commemorate the creation of the world's first laser by T.H. Maiman in 1960, aims to highlight the crucial role of light and light-based technologies in science, culture, education, and sustainable economic development.

ICOP 2024

The Italian Conference on Optics and Photonics, ICOP, will be held in Florence on 17 - 19 June 2024.

It aims to bring together researchers from all over Italy and worldwide, networking and exchanging their research developments in the field of Optics and Photonics, in a stimulating and multidisciplinary forum.

PRE’24

The "Photoluminescence in Rare Earth: Photonic Materials and Devices" Conference, PRE’24, will be held in Trento on 13 - 15 May 2024.

It is the tenth event in the series of International Workshops covering a wide range of research topics concerning the properties and applications of rare-earth ions in optoelectronics and photonics.

PRE’24 aims at providing to material scientists, chemists and physicists the opportunity of debating about the state of the art and the perspectives of the photonic materials based on rare earth ions.

SIOF DOCTORATE THESIS AWARD 2023

The Italian Society for Optics and Photonics (SIOF), in the spirit of promoting the study and development in optics and photonics, issues a call for one award of € 1000,00 for the best Ph.D. thesis. The prize will be delivered as a contribution to the attendance expenses for a conference, school, or any other similar activity, at the request of the winner.

The price is dedicated to young members who carried their activity by an Italian or Research Center and whose Ph.D. thesis has optics and photonics as the main subject.

SIOF GRADUATION THESIS AWARD 2023

The Italian Society for Optics and Photonics (SIOF), in the spirit of promoting the study and development in optics and photonics, issues a 2023 call for two prizes of € 500,00 for undergraduate (master) theses. The prizes will be delivered as a contribution to the attendance expenses for a conference, school, or any other similar activity, at the request of the winners.

The prizes are dedicated to young SIOF members who carried their activity by an Italian or Research Center and whose thesis has optics and photonics as the main subject.

INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL OF BIOPHYSICS «ANTONIO BORSELLINO»

The Erice Course, celebrating 50 years of Biophysics in Italy when SIBPA (www.sibpa.it) started  the activities within a growing italian network made by CNR and University labs with Prof.Antonio Borsellino, full professore of theoretical physics at Department of Physics of the University of Genoa. Among the international lecturers (list to be completed) we will have Carlos Bustamante, Martin Chalfie, Laura Finzi, David Dunlap, Joerg Enderlein, Tony Watts, Leonel Malacrida, Jose Maria Carazo and  others to be confirmed soon.

BPAI-BIOPHOTONICS & ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE SCHOOL

The BpAI-Biophotonics & Artificial Intelligence School was born in 2022 by the minds of Andrea Barucci, Ambra Giannetti and Francesca Rossi. All of them works as researchers at the Institute of Applied Physics-CNR in Florence but in different areas. Thanks to their different research fields ranging from optical biosensor, photonics and Artificial Intelligence, the idea of the BpAI School was born.

EOSAM 2023

The European Optical Society Annual Meeting, EOSAM, will be held on 11 - 15 September 2023 in one of Europe's most charismatic cities, Dijon, the Unesco World Heritage site, and the gastronomy capital of Europe!  Each year EOSAM gathers together over 500 top researchers, key leaders, students and industry experts. EOSAM consists of a full week of novel research results presented from the widest range of optics and photonics fields.

PLASMONICA 2023

Since 2013 the PLASMONICA network associated with the SIOF working group ‘Plasmonics and Nano-Optics’ has established itself as a prominent forum for researchers in the field of nanophotonics. After 10 years, the Workshop on Plasmonics and Nano-Optics will come back where it all started: at Politecnico di Milano, on 5–7 July 2023. Save the date and stay tuned! A call for abstract will be issued soon. The topics of the workshop include:
